Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The persecution and rejection of Jews and Judaism is not an invention of modern times. It begins in Hellenistic times with work of Manetho. A long list of pagan Greek and Latin authors as well as Christian literature up to the Arab conquests attests to the popularity of antisemitism in antiquity and late antiquity. This lecture class will survey the history of ancient antisemitism and ask what motivated it.
