Aims, contents and method of the course

This class introduces into the academic study of ancient Jewish literature. As a sample text the Binding of Isaac (Gen 22) and its reception history in ancient Judaism will be analyzed.

Assessment and permitted materials

Each week, students have to apply the methodologies learned in class to Gen 6:1-4 in a one page paper. anwenden. These Papers will be graded each week. At the end of the term, students will summarize their results in a presentation. The final grade will recognize all papers written by the students as well as the presentation.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The students will learn how to study ancient Jewish literature guided by scholarly method.
