Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The lecture will give an overview about questions, methods and results of post-medieval archeology in Europe, especially in the German-speaking world.
Post-medieval archaeology is one of the most recent archaeologies. But the discipline gains increasing importance and popularity by the close connection with the heritage conservation and the immediate temporal proximity to our modern society. Post-medieval archaeology is in constant exchange with neighboring disciplines. Archaeological methods can be used to depict a part of the historical reality which, despite many written and pictorial sources, could not be discovered otherwise. The spectrum ranges from the archeology of the Reformation to the investigation of our modern present age.
The lecture finishes with a written test.
