Aims, contents and method of the course

This course will discuss the political and cultural life in Israel today. The diverse landscape of this society which is at once Middle Eastern and European, multicultural and homogeneous, dominated by tension and contradictions, finds expression in cultural and artistic representation. Through films, literature and the media we will discuss images of political life (domestic and foreign), conflicts (national and international), and social changes. This course offers an in-depth understanding of the multitude factors at play in shaping Israel’s statehood.
Basic understanding of Hebrew is required.
