Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

From the beginning until now, Jewish history and culture were and are characterized by exceptional achievements. This is all the more remarkable as the history of Judaism is also characterized by political and historical crises and the need to overcome them. To overcome such crises ancient Judaism developed the cornerstones of its thought and existence. In this lecture class, I will introduce you to the history, culture, and religon of ancient Judaism from its bronze age beginnings until the destruction of the Herodian temple and the Second Jewish war. During this period, Judaism developed social and religious concepts that influence modern cultures until today. Examples include the ideas of monotheism and a constitutional monarchy.
