Aims, contents and method of the course

This lecture focuses on actors, actresses, directors and their films for the Ufa pre- and during the NS-regime. The persecution of jewish artists will be looked at in this lecture as well as conformation and dissociation of those non-jewish Ufa-artists who lived in romantic relationships with jewish partners.

Central part of this lecture will be given to the listed films.

Assessment and permitted materials

Students taking part in this lecture will write on schedule a comparative, analytical essay on two listed films or an essay on one during the lecture discussed topics. Those who decide to write about two films will also examine one of the artists discussed in the lecture.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The essays (9-12 pages) are neither film transcripts nor re-narrations and certainly no biographical texts.

In order to receive positive gradings students will, thanks to defined and upfront announced research question, give proof of their scientific approaches.

A intense examination of the listed literature is recommended.

Participating students can discuss with the lecturer their research question and the topic of choice. They will have time until December 2nd to announce their definite topic of choice with the inherent research question via Email.
