Aims, contents and method of the course

Hasmonean rule marks the last period of Jewish independence before the founding of the modern state of Israel. Under Hasmonean command the Jews did not only liberate themselves from Greco-Seleucid occupation. They created also a Jewish state which marks a heyday in ancient Judaism. This lecture class will survey the history of the Hasmonean Jewish state and introduce to its culture and religion.
