What characterizes Judaism after the destruction of the Temple? Who are the rabbis? What are their (sacred) writings? Who rules over rabbis and other Jews and what kind of self-government did the Jewish communities in Palestine and the Diaspora have at this time? These and other questions are addressed in this course on the history of rabbinic literature and culture in the rabbinic period, which is an introduction to the historical background and contexts and the most important sources of late antique Judaism.
