Aims, contents and method of the course

The course provides an overview of the most important historical and cultural developments in Egypt from prehistoric times until the end of the Middle Kingdom around 1750 BC. In addition, it deals with the geographic and climatic conditions that helped shaping the ancient Egyptian civilisation. Further topics include the chronological backbone of the respective period and important groups of archaeological sources.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Participants should have acquired a robust knowledge of the most important developments in Egyptian history and culture until the end of the Middle Kingdom. They shoule be able to provide historical and chronological context for cultural key phenomena.
