Aims, contents and method of the course
During the Lehrgrabung 1/BA (Bachelor Curriculum) the participants learn basic principles of archaeological excavation. This includes planning, surveying (total station), excavation activities, documentation (photos, drawings, total station, etc.) as well as finds management and reporting. During the Lehrgrabung 2/MA (Master Curriculum) the core competencies of archaeological excavation are reinforced and initial independent decisions about the excavation and documentation process are practiced. This includes, but is not limited to, documentation, protocol and report writing. The presentation of the excavation results in the context of an open excavation day is supported by the participants.
Assessment and permitted materials
Assessment is based on the following assignments:* Participation in fieldwork (constant)* 1 protocol (written, submitted via Moodle)* 1 report (written, submitted via Moodle)Detailed information on format, structure and other information on the reports will be made available via Moodle.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Participation for 20 days is mandatory.Final grade is calculated based on the grades of the individual assignments, which are weighted as follows:Participation: 80%Protocol: 5%Report: 15%All three assignments must be completed.
