Aims, contents and method of the course
The legal position of women in the rabbinic period on the basis of Mishnah and Tosefta, the documents from the Dead Sea and inscriptions of the period. The daily life of Jewish women and stereotypes about them in rabbinic texts.
Assessment and permitted materials
Regular attendance. Oral presentation and written seminar paper or oral exam.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Introduction to some legal and social aspects of Jewish life in late antiquity and to an adequate use of literary and documentary sources for this purpose.
Examination topics
Analysis and discussion of essential texts; oral presentations and written papers of the participants.
