Aims, contents and method of the course

Rabbinic texts reacting to Jesus and/or Christianity (or which have been understood in this way) demonstrate what the rabbis in Palestine and Babylonia knew of Christianity and how the Jewish-Christian relationship developed.

Assessment and permitted materials

Regular attendance. Oral presentation and written seminar paper or oral exam.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Introduction to central aspects of the religious history in late antiquity and to an adequate use of rabbinic sources for this purpose.

Examination topics

Analysis and discussion of essential texts; oral presentations and written papers of the participants.
