Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This lecture series aims to introduce advanced (masters level) students to the methods, theories and outstanding issues involved in developing a forward-looking research-based inter/transdisciplinarty archaeology. It will incorporate a broad transdisciplinary perspective in providing an updated basic training in uniformitarianism (actualism) and biological evolution, both of which have a critical involvement in the construction of narrative prehistory. Knowledge of these areas is a sine qua non for understanding the ever increasing analytical potential of the new generation of archaeological science techniques (light stable isotopic dietary reconstruction, aDNA, REET taphonomy, XRF necrosol identification, and so on) as for the development of the next generation of archaeology practioners in Vienna.
