Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The aim of this course is to gain an overview about the chronology and the most important facts of ancient Egyptian history. The explanation of the events relies on important archaeological source materials (architecture, material culture, art, texts).
Participants should have acquired a robust knowledge of the most important developments in ancient Egyptian history and culture. They should be able to provide historical and chronological contexts for cultural key phenomena.
CONTENTS: The course provides an overview of the most important historical and cultural developments in Egypt from prehistoric times until the end of the Pharaonic aera, including an outlook to later periods. In addition, it deals with the conditions that helped shaping the ancient Egyptian civilisation. Target is to resume the chronological backbone of the respective period and important groups of archaeological sources.
METHOD: lectures. The detailed program will be presented at the beginning of the term (accessible via moodle). Additional ressources will be available via moodle.
The course is planned as teaching in classroom. In case of difficulties for the room capacity, caused by a high number of participants,we plan to give the course as a Hybrid class (split in groups in weekly rotation of presence or synchron-digital class via webinar-tools). In case of a new lockdown the course is given in entirely digital classes (webinar-tool).
