Participants should have acquired a robust knowledge of the most important developments in ancient Egyptian history and culture. They should be able to provide historical and chronological contexts for cultural key phenomena.
CONTENTS: The course provides an overview of the most important historical and cultural developments in Egypt from prehistoric times until the end of the Pharaonic aera, including an outlook to later periods. In addition, it deals with the conditions that helped shaping the ancient Egyptian civilisation. Target is to resume the chronological backbone of the respective period and important groups of archaeological sources.
METHOD: lectures in class. The detailed program will be presented at the beginning of the term (accessible via moodle). Additional ressources will be available via moodle.
