Aims, contents and method of the course

Ancient Alexandria was not only the cultural metropolis of the hellenistic world but also next to Jerusalem the second center of Jewish culture. Alexandria gave not only key impulses for the history of the western and Muslim worlds but also for the religious histories of Judaism and Christianity. In this class, we will study the history of Egyptian, Greek, and Jewish Alexandria in antiquity.
