Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Early Medieval gold-, silver- and copper alloy objects play an important role in archaeology. They form the "backbone" of fine chronology and at the same time, show both regional and quality differences, which makes them relevant for research questions from the fields of social, economic or population history. The seminar is transdisciplinary, focusing on the goldsmith's craft from different points of view, with particular attention to technological aspects and to archaeometric methods.
