Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The results of technological studies on archaeological gold-, silver- and copper-alloy objects are not only relevant for the "history of technology" of a particular period: They are also important additional criteria for the historical interpretation of archaeological finds. The purpose of this class is to give an overview of the most important production and decorative techniques of the goldsmith's craft from the Bronze Age to the Middle Ages, including their characteristics. This class is also an introduction to the methods and purposes of technological studies on precious metal and copper-alloy finds.
