Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Ports and harbour cities were gateways to the world; material goods, ideas, technologies, diseases and other things were exchanged there, different social, economic and cultural spaces mingle in these places. In addition harbours were places of transhipment of goods, passengers, hopes, knowledge and discourses, ports were also places of writing (with lot of sources).

Assessment and permitted materials

Preparation of the weekly readings; attendance and active participation in class discussions; regular short written essays.
