Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Based on the method course in the winter term 2020/21 this workshop offers an opportunity to try out traditional and new methods for researching personal relations and interactions (Prosopography, Social Network Analysis (SNA), Digital Data Collection and Relational / Semi-structured Databases). These are key dimensions of medieval and early modern Social and Economic, Cultural and Gender History. Students will acquire basic knowledge on these methods and will also be instructed how to make use of them in concrete research settings. A well-balanced set of reading units, presentations by PhD students, and practical exercises will provide access to key research questions, source materials, and methodological approaches in the field. The participants have to establish several minor exercises using data provided by the lecturer or easily accessible through databases.
