Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Objectives:
- Planning visits to memorial sites
- Analyzing current challenges (e.g. right-wing radicalism, dealing with minorities) in a historical context
- Contextualizing political, social and educational developments with the help of Holocaust education
- Development of didactic models of Holocaust education
- "Searching for traces" in one's own family and environment

Contents:
- Analysis and discussion of aspects of memory (memory for the future) and the significance of family narratives
- Analysis and deconstruction of the function of memory: memory work, genogram, dealing with oral sources, historical culture and historical politics, analysis of daily political events
- Didactics of Holocaust education in the different age groups. Analysis of school curricula
- Excursion to local memorial sites
- Discussion with eyewitnesses
- Experiences of young people with memorial sites, preparation and follow-up of memorial site visit

Assessment and permitted materials

Presentations by the students
Completion of tasks (genogram, essays etc.)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Completion of all tasks, active participation in the course, reception of the seminar readings

Examination topics
