Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The course will address voluntary and involuntary forms of migration in the 19th and 20th century, which connected different parts of the world with each other. We will look at these mobilities through the lens of oral history by analyzing historiographic studies and oral history interviews in different formats (transcript, audio, video), reflecting on the potentials and shortcomings of the method for studying global migration history.
Assessment and permitted materials
Students are expected to thoroughly prepare the reading and primary source material every week and actively participate in classroom discussions. They will write short weekly papers (1 page) and one essay (4 pages) at the end of the semester, which reflects on the issues discussed throughout the course. The course will be held in English.
