Classes
The course will take place on site in the lecture hall 50 in the main building of the University. Should the general conditions change due to Covid-19, the seminar will be continued online on the given dates.
Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The course supports students in developing an expose for qualification/master theses (especially in the field of contemporary history, gender history and history of knowledge). The goal is to develop a proposal for a MA thesis. The following questions/problems will be addressed in the course: how to identify a suitable field of research, how to work out a research question, how/where to collect sources and literature, how to deal with the state of the art, etc. Depending on the composition of the group, texts on theories and methods relevant for the practical elaboration of the Master’s theses’ topics will be discussed.
Assessment and permitted materials
Writing of a literature report, oral presentation of the topic, written preparation of a proposal
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Active participation in class (30%), writing a literature report and a proposal (70%)
Examination topics
Provided literature and exemplary proposals.
