Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This Proseminar examines European and Mediterranean society in the transitional period between Antiquity and the Middle Ages. The period between c. 300 and c. 1100 marks the collapse or transformation of the Roman Empire, the Justinianic Plague or First Pandemic (541-c.750), the development of new early medieval religious and ethnic identities, and, by the end of the eleventh century, a new economic and political order around the Mediterranean. The course is oriented around the research of a proseminar paper, on an early medieval subject of your own choice.
