Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The course offers an exemplary introduction to scientific work in historical science on the topic of "democracy". The development of historical questions, getting to know different types of scientific texts, systematic scientific research, dealing with historical sources, including basic knowledge of archives and historical forms of writing, as well as the development of the basic ability to write and present a historical scientific paper are at the centre of this course.
Assessment and permitted materials
The performance assessment is based on the following components:- Active participation
- regular written assignments
- oral presentation of the term paper
- Term paper of approx. 25,000 characters (with spaces, approx. 9 manuscript pages, 1½ lines, 12 pt., including footnotes, title page, table of contents, bibliography, without graphics).

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Minimum requirements:
Compulsory attendance. If two sessions are missed, a written compensation assignment is due; if three sessions are missed, the course cannot be completed positively. All partial performances must be completed on time and in full.Grading scale:
40% active participation & regular written assignments
40% term paper
20% presentation of the term paper in the course incl. handout
