Aims, contents and method of the course
In this class we will read basic texts about early modern global economic integration. We start reading and discussing basic literature dealing with the question whether there actually existed a global, integrated economy in the early modern era and then discuss global trade in several commodities like bullion, spices, sugar ,coffee, tea and the like to figure out what beginning global integration meant for their production, distribution and consumption.
Assessment and permitted materials
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
To learn how to read, discuss and write scholarly texts in English dealing with a central subject in global economic history. Each student has to give one presentation and write a paper in English
