Aims, contents and method of the course

This introduction to Digital Humanities explores the promise and pitfalls of emerging methods in the Digital Humanities, as well as the intellectual contexts surrounding them. Through lectures, group discussions of key questions, visits with local digital humanities researchers, hands-on exercises, and self-directed research, students will gain a broad overview of the state of research and working methods in the Digital Humanities.

Assessment and permitted materials

Assessment will be by written examination at the end of the course, consisting of two longer essay questions.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Below is the grading scale:
1 (sehr gut) 100-90 points
2 (gut) 89-81 points
3 (befriedigend) 80-71 points
4 (genügend) 70-60 points
5 (nicht genügend) 59-0 points

Examination topics

The exam will cover topics discussed in class and assigned readings.

Reading list

Short readings will be assigned a week in advance via Moodle most weeks.
