Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The contemporary debate about global warming has also brought earlier periods of climate change more into the limelight, both as evidence of the potentially devastating effects of such changes and as putative evidence of their "normality". The number of studies on the interrelationships between climatic changes and socio-economic and political change is constantly growing, the scenarios presented in them, sometimes even exaggerated with regard to media effectiveness, are often difficult to verify. In the exercise, by joint readings the students are to familiarize themselves with the basics of climate-historical work, in order to then be able to critically read and discuss selected sources and research literature.
One unit on historical climate research on the medieval Mediterranean will be taught by Dr. Ekaterini Mitsiou.
