Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

20 SS Excursion Global Vienna

The excursion will lead to places which testimony Vienna’s outstanding role in global history: once a metropolis of an Empire with global reach, Vienna became a shrinking town after 1918. A second era of international significance was based on Austria’s Post World War II neutrality and its ability to serve as an international mediator between East and West. With the end of communism the town became part of global relocation of investment and migration, attracting tourists, asylum seekers as well as Multinational Companies.

The course consists of three excursion days, exploring contrasting images of Global Vienna. The excursions will serve as methods of investigation. The topics of investigation as well as the visiting points depend on the interests of the participants: they will be fixed in two preparatory classes. A final class is dedicated to the presentation and discussion of results.
