Aims, contents and method of the course
Methods Course (KU) and Excursion (EXK) Connecting Vienna (Komlosy /Strohmeier) aim at introducing Austrian and international students in a cooperative investigation into Viennas role in the international system, focussing all sorts of connections and communications (in selected topics, with a focus on 19-21 centuries). These fields will serve to highlight the history of Viennas interaction with the world on a regional, a European and a global scale. The course (KU) aims at methods and methodological competence, preparing the grounds for the excursion (EXK), and the results of the excursion are to be included into the final presentations. Students will work in groups on selected topics and commonly write a paper (5 pages/participant, c. 20 pages in total), connected with the excursion programme. The excursion part consists of 3 full days excursions, offering possibilities to meet experts in various institutions and organizations. Methods Course and Excursion form a unit, they require regular participation and a high commitment from the participants. The number of participants is limited to max. 25.
