Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This course is designed to help students develop the literary, creative, and technical skills to harness the podcasting medium. The course will feature guest lectures from world-famous professional podcasters, podcast studio executives, and reporters who cover the podcasting industry. Students will learn the essentials of audio recording and editing, and understand the technical 'back-end' of podcast hosting. Students will also study the role of ethics and diversity in podcasting, and practice writing, researching, and interviewing. Over the course of the semester, each student will work on a rough 'pilot' of a podcast and then after listening to and critiquing each others' work, students will agree to work together on one or more projects and create a full 'season' of a podcast which will serve as a final project for the course.

Assessment and permitted materials

During the course, students will have to work on a pilot podcast project of their choice (25%) and they will work together to create a full season of their chosen podcast project (60%). Attendance and active participation in class will be considered as well (15%).

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

See above.

Examination topics

There will be no examination, all assessments will be done through projects and participation.

Reading list

Most will be sample podcast episodes to listen to, and all details will be available through Moodle.
