Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The course is part of the DH master module “Specialization in Clusters of DH”. Its aim is to integrate traditional intellectual history and methods of computational analysis, in particular topic modelling. Research on the Enlightenment has become a testbed for such approaches during recent years (with regard to the analysis of correspondence networks, but also to the application of methods of corpus linguistics to texts like the Encyclopédie); however, the Central European Enlightenment has not yet fully profited from this kind of attention. The course wants to help fill this gap.

Assessment and permitted materials

During the course, students will have to work on specific assignments (text summaries, data preparation … 30%) and they will also create their own project, based on a specific text/corpus of their choice (50%). Active participation in class will be considered as well (20%).
