Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Too much work done in university remains trapped inside the walls of academia, never to reach the wider world. This course is designed to help students develop the literary, creative, and technical skills to harness the podcasting medium to bring their own academic work to a larger audience. In this class, students will learn the writing skills to transform their academic research into audio form, as well as the essentials of audio recording and editing, and understand the technical 'back-end' of podcast hosting. Over the course of the semester, each student will work on a rough 'pilot' of a podcast and then after listening to and critiquing each others' work, students will agree to work together in groups to create full 'seasons' of a podcast which will serve as a final project for the course.

Assessment and permitted materials

During the course, students will complete several short writing or audio editing assignments, (30%) work on a pilot podcast project of their choice, (20%) and finally they will work together to create a full season of their chosen podcast project (50%). Attendance and active class participation will be considered as well.
