Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The Austrian capital Vienna (today 2 million inhabitants) and the second largest city in the Czech Republic, Brno (380,000 inhabitants), share a comparable urban history in many areas, and in some cases there are similar turning points (such as the siege of Brno in the Thirty Years' War in 1645, the siege of Vienna in 1683, the Battle of Aspern and the Battle of Austerlitz, (proto-)industrialisation, the Nazi era). In the sense of an "entangled history", it is therefore of interest in terms of urban history to take a comparative look at the two major cities from the late Middle Ages onwards.
