Aims, contents and method of the course
Assessment and permitted materials
The performance of the students is monitored and commented on by the teacher throughout the entire semester: Active participation in the individual sessions (40%) is expected, and homework assignments (individual work/60% of the grade with a positive assessment) are expected for a total of around 10 Pages.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
In addition to active participation, the timely upload of a homework exercise on a contemporary or film-historical aspect (individual work/60% of the grade if the assessment is positive) on a total of approx. 10 pages is expected.
Due to the limited number of appointments in the semester, attendance at all meetings is mandatory!

Examination topics
In addition to the active participation, the essay to be written is approximately 10 pages long and is dedicated to a contemporary historical phenomenon that is characterized by the transparent involvement of a text-generating AI. Relevant information will be provided in the constitutive meeting.

Using the example of DEFA feature films, the possibilities of their contemporary historical and cultural framing will be illustrated. Since every generation writes its own histories of the past, the subjective factor of the students, who were usually born after the end of the GDR, is methodologically indispensable.
