Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This course is specially ment for students in the MA programmes for History specialising in Medieval History, Historical Research, Historical Auxiliary Sciences and Archivistics, and Historical and Cultural European Research, but is also open for students in teacher formation in History. It will treat the time between the Merovingians and the end of the Holy Roman Empire, and this will be in the centre of attention in comparison with other European countries and realms, based on a material understanding of the term constitution. Institutional history will be combined with social and political history. We will read exemplary sources for this theme as a basis for discussion combined with lecture parts for basic facts and papers given by the participants for special themes of constitutional history.

Participation of students during course, papers read by students and essays writen on that basis

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Basic knowledge of European constitutional history and of exemplary sources to this field

Examination topics
