Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Objectives of this excursion is the acquiring of knowledge about concepts, definitions and methods of the Cultural Studies, especially under the aspect of cultural transfer. Based on these methods, historical research of self-chosen places in Vienna, in context of the history of the own family or social group and of the general history of the city.

After a profound methodical introduction, the participants select Viennese sites and research their history, narratives and meanings in past and present. During an organisational meeting they assemble the stations and routes and fix the tours (5 double units à 3 hours). In a final meeting, the presentations are discussed and mutual feedback is given.

Assessment and permitted materials

The course is a continuous assessment course, therefor presence is required. The monitoring is based on the presentation and active discussion of the prepared theoretical introduction and the final discussion (20%). At the chosen site, a presentation of 10 minutes has to be given (40%) and a paper of 5 pages has to be submitted (40%).

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Die Lehrveranstaltung ist prüfungsimmanent, daher ist Anwesenheitspflicht ist erforderlich. Maximal zwei Einheiten à 45 Minuten dürfen versäumt werden. Die Beurteilung erfolgt aufgrund der Vorbereitung der vorher übermittelten Einführungstexte sowie der Beteiligung an der Einführungs- und Schlussdiskussion (20%). Am gewählten Ort ist ein Referat von 10 Minuten zu halten (40%) und dazu eine schriftliche Arbeit im Umfang von 5 Seiten zu verfassen (40%).
