Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Systematic presence, participation in discussions. The timely handing in of the seminar paper´s first version is mandatory as each student will have a peer reader who will need time to evaluate this first version (failure to do so results in an automatic failing grade). A Proseminar paper is classically: 18-22 Seiten/Pages, 2-Zeilenabstand/double spaced -- im Umfang von ca. 40.000 Zeichen, (minus 5% oder plus 15%), einschließlich Leerzeichen, Fußnoten, Titelblatt, Inhaltsverzeichnis, Bibliographie, ohne Grafiken oder Bilder / about circa 40.000 signs (minus 5% or plus 15%), including blanks, footnotes, title page, table of contents and bibliography. You can go over the sign & page limit if your paper is to the point, and/or if you have to cite a lot in the footnotes, about 5 pages more.
This allows you to review 5-6 well chosen books.

The course aims at the production of a seminar paper that will be a state of the field (Stand der Forschung) on a theme of the student's choice (after discussion with the instructor). It can be in German, English, or French.
A State of the Field is not a synthesis or a compilation...
