Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This course sets its thematic focus on Historiography of International History.

In the first step, the readings selected introduce you into the evolvement of this historical discipline – based on its key episodes and phenomena from its occidental beginnings in the European Enlightenment an all the way through the turbulent 20th century.
Supported by our readings, we then familiarize ourselves with various farther approaches and research perspectives on the issue of the International as dealt with in the Englightenment, Marxism, from the viewpoint of Gender -, Postcolonial, and Transformation Studies.

Here, the International History as a background topic develops awareness for central phases in Historiography and – in form of open discussions in course helps training your practical approach to professional work with these thought traditions.
