Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The research seminar deals with the value and the importance of islands in the process of globalisation. In the past fifty years and reinforced in recent times islands have repeatedly been the subject of political conflicts (e.g. South China Sea, Caribbean). The seminar will have a close look at these cases from a historical point of view.

Assessment and permitted materials

Students have to write a research paper, give an oral presentation, and have to participate in the debates and the review processes.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Students are expected to attend all classes and meetings, to write a scientific paper (with critical footnotes, 70.000 characters + abstract), and to present the result of their research.

Examination topics

Guided research, discussion, scientific criticism, writing and presenting the research paper.
