Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
General history of diplomatics and the development of European charters and chanceries during the middle ages and early modern times. Basics of chronology, calendar and dating in Europe in this period and analysis and interpretation of charters and their datings.
Assessment and permitted materials
Active participation, weekly exercises to diplomatics and chronology, an exam of four hours for chronology and diplomatics
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Basical knowledge of the history of diplomatics and the development of European charters and chanceries during the middle ages and early modern times , of the inner and outer characteristics and the legal content of charters from this period
Knowledge of the principles of chronology and dating during the middle ages and early modern times in Europe
Ability of analysing and interpreting charters from the middle ages and early modern times within the context of their legal and cultural interdependencies
Ability to analyse and interpret historical dates in medieval and early modern historical sources and to transform them into modern dates
Ability to analyse structures of written sources in their development and impact
Knowledge of the principles of chronology and dating during the middle ages and early modern times in Europe
