Aims, contents and method of the course

Die Veranstaltung richtet sich an alle, deren Masterarbeit inhaltlich im Feld der Wissenschaftsgeschichte, der Wissensgeschichte oder der Medizingeschichte angesiedelt ist. Wenn Sie unsicher sind, ob es für Sie geeignet ist, schreiben Sie eine Email an anna.echterhoelter@univie.ac.at. Neben aktuellen Bewegungen im Feld der genannten Fächer diskutieren wir laufende studentische Forschungsprojekte oder auch Ideen für solche. Deshalb ist ein Teil der Sitzungen für Einzelvorstellungen reserviert. Die Teilnehmenden präsentieren entweder eine Materialstudie oder geben dem Plenum ein bereits verfasstes Kapitel zu lesen (min. 12 und max. 20 Seiten), welches dann im Plenum gemeinsam besprochen wird.

Assessment and permitted materials

The submissions in this master's seminar are discussed individually at the beginning of the term and adapted to the respective status of the master's project. The submission typically includes a revised chapter or exposé.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The following scientific skills will be rewarded: Ability to navigate the subject area, knowledge of the most important concepts and methods in the history of science, ability to use specialist bibliographies and pertinent archival portals, familiarity with exemplary cases, the standard is al-ways general academic ability: originality of approaches, independence and clar-ity of argumentation, critical handling of the material, nuanced assessment of the research literature, depth of research.

Examination topics

Is given and defined by the scope of the individual masters' project.

Reading list

General literature on the history of science and knowledge will be distributed during the sessions of the seminar.
