Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
What is historical research, what is a source, how do I create a research design? What is the difference between an individual project and a collaborative project? Why is theory important, what methods exist and how do I choose them for my written assignments? The course offers an application-oriented introduction to the conceptual foundation and praxis of historical research practice, with a focus on modern history. It familiarizes the students with various types of sources, qualitative and quantitative research methods, as well as their application. The participants will acquire a basic knowledge of text analysis, qualitative content analysis, historical biography, the spatial turn, analysis of serial and quantitative data, the analysis of visual sources, spaces in historical studies, methods of global history. In the framework of their final essay, the participants will develop their own research design and conduct a source analysis using a selected method.
