Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The course focuses on different approaches, methods and schools of gender history, as well as the crucial concepts of this field, such as sex and gender, masculinity and femininity, intersectionality, performativity, agency. The class covers the following topics (and more):
- Gendered approaches in social history, history of social movements, intellectual and cultural history, political history.
- History of the field from the 1970s.
- Critical source reading through a gendered lens.
- Gender history before modernity.
- Gender and global history.

Assessment and permitted materials

Weekly readings; Active participation in the class discussion; Short written exercises (take-home essays) followed by class discussion.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Regular active participation (2x unexcused absences are permitted); Active participation in the course discussions; Short class presentation; Short written works and their discussion.
