Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Crisis is a booming topic. This can be seen from the frequency with which crises are referred to in the media, but also from the intensity of academic discussion of the topic. In this seminar we will first look at the conceptual approaches developed in the humanities and social sciences for the analysis of crises. In a second step, we will use these instruments to deal with the political, economic, social and cultural ruptures of the Habsburg Monarchy and the successor states.

Assessment and permitted materials

1) Active participation in the discussions
2) The presentation of your own BA topic, comments to the presentations of your colleagues
3) bachelor thesis with approx. 65,000 characters (± 5%), including spaces, footnotes, title page, table of contents, bibliography, without graphics (= approx. 25 manuscript pages, 1½ lines, 12 points)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

- active participation
- The presentation is mandatory
- Timely submission of the bachelor thesis: To ensure good scientific practice, the course management can invite students to a grade-relevant discussion after submitting the bachelor thesis, which must be completed positively

Assessment scale:
All written (partial) services to be uploaded to Moodle are checked with the plagiarism software turnitin. The performance assessment is based on the following weighting:

- Participation in the discussion including various forms of feedback for other participants (constructive, technically correct contributions and commitment to discussing the presentations): 25 points
- Oral presentation plus Power Point Slides: 25 points
- Bachelor thesis: 50 points (agreed deadline must be met)

For a positive assessment of the course, 60 points are required, the bachelor thesis must be positive (one-time improvement with a negative result):
1. (very good) 100-90 points
2. (good) 89-81 points
3. (satisfactory) 80-71 points
4. (enough) 70-60 points
5. (not enough) 59-0 points
