Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The VO Global History introduces analytical and empirical foci and key practices in the field of Global History.
After some lectures about the main tenets of global history, each lecture proposes one entry point into the field, including: places; individuals and groups; objects and commodities; sources; authors; narratives; trans-disciplinarity.
The potential of the global approach for sub-fields that have hitherto received only marginal consideration in global history will also be explored.

The sessions are structured primarily around the lectures. However, students are encouraged to engage actively with the issues raised by the lecturer, for example by: asking (informative and critical) questions; providing examples; thinking how the concepts and approaches presented in the lecture might be implemented in the study of other spatial and temporal contexts.
