Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

First, this course will give an introduction into the defining debates on Global History and its distinction from complementary approaches to the “history of the world.” It will then present important methodological issues, such as the delimitation of research topics, linguistic challenges, archival issues, periodization. Finally, over the main part of the course, we will address key issues that define the current practice of Global History and demonstrate the theoretical and methodological implications discussed at the outset.

Assessment and permitted materials

There will be a final written exam with a limited number of questions to be answered in a narrative fashion, testing your understanding of the matters discussed during the course.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

In order to pass, you have to score at least 51% of the points in the final exam.

4 / Genügend 51-60 points
5 / Nicht genügend 0-50 points
While your presence in class is not mandatory, it allows you to actively participate, which will be reflected in your final grade as well.

Examination topics

Subject of the exam will be the content of the lectures and of the mandatory reading distributed during the course.
