Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

How can Viennese collections be used for global history? Where do traces of global Vienna appear and how are they preserved and made visible in collections?

The method workshop “Global Vienna” aims to create a guide to archives and collections that can be made particularly productive for a global history of Vienna. To this end, we will visit Viennese museums, collections and archives, talk to archivists and curators and develop a compilation that can also be helpful for future Master's students in Vienna and beyond. In this way, the students familiarize themselves with the field of global history and learn about collection and archiving practices as well as about public history concerns that arise in relation to current and permanent exhibitions in Vienna.

The language of instruction is German and English.
