Aims, contents and method of the course

Das Forschungspraktikum befasst sich mit der Zeitgeschichte Osteuropas, das zugleich im weiteren Kontext der europäischen Geschichte verortet wird. Thematisch schließt die Lehrveranstaltung an vergangene Seminare und Vorlesungen über Nationalismus, gewaltsame Bevölkerungsverschiebungen, Diktaturen, den Niedergang des Kommunismus, den Umbruch von 1989 sowie die nachfolgende Transformation Europas an. Die genaue Auswahl der Themengebiete hängt auch von den TeilnehmerInnen und ihren inhaltlichen Schnittflächen ab.
Auf theoretischer Ebene wird in aktuelle Debatten und Ansätze in der Sozial- und Kulturgeschichte eingegangen, insbesondere auf den historischen Vergleich und die "transnationale" Geschichte. Ein spezielles Modul könnte, sofern es für die jeweiligen Forschungsinteressen relevant ist, auch den aktuellen Stand der Oral History vermitteln. Sprachkompetenzen in osteuropäischen Sprachen (insbesondere polnisch, tschechisch, slowakisch, ukrainisch, ungarisch, russisch) wären je nach Projekt hilfreich, sind aber keine Voraussetzung.
