Aims, contents and method of the course

The seminar focusses on the concepts of young citizens of politics and democracy. Thematic aspects: political participation of young people and the perception of society and media; freedom, democracy and social responsibility in the eyes of young citizens; their knowledge concerning participation in state institutions and in civil society; their opinions toward social, cultural and gender diversity; their active (political) participation via social media and in associations other than the political parties.
Starting from actual discourses in civc/citizenship education and including more recent studies on the political knowledge and skills of young people the seminar aims at discussing and elaborating didactic strategies for competence building towords active citizenship in school. The various dimensions of active participation in the community, in state institutions, in civil society and in international a/o European institutions and NGOs will be in the focus of interest. Results of the students' investigations are expected to be implemented in a concrete lesson plan for secondary school teaching; expected are plans with respect to form of social and political learning with respect to extra-school activities.
